Dr. Edward M. Watkins Award

The Dr. Edward M. Watkin Award is named after a founding member of the CLRA in recognition of significant service given to furthering land reclamation in Canada. The award is presented by the CLRA/ACRSD in recognition of major contributions to land reclamation, especially through service to foster advances in regulation, reclamation success, or development of personnel or students.

The efforts do not necessarily span a major portion of the recipient’s career.  A recipient may have made major contributions to CLRA/ACRSD which has led to the advancement of the Association.  The recipient may be an individual or agency, institution or company.

Eligibility

  • Nominators must be members of CLRA/ACRSD;
  • Nominees will be considered for either their contributions to land reclamation in Canada or their contributions to the CLRA/ACRSD and may or may not be members of the CLRA/ACRSD.  Individuals, companies, industrial associations, colleges, universities or departments thereof, are eligible for nomination;
  • The CLRA/ACRSD President, Vice-President and members of the Watkin Award Selection Committee are not eligible to be nominated or submit nominations during their term of office.

Nomination Process

Preparation of the best nomination possible for a colleague is a compliment to both the nominee and the nominator. The members of the Watkin Award Selection Committee may not be familiar with the qualifications of the nominees and, therefore, their decision/evaluation must be based upon the information presented in the nomination. In fairness to all nominees, submissions should be complete and conform to the provided format. The nominator may seek the assistance of the nominee in supplying background information for use in preparing the nomination to ensure accurate, quality nominations. The clear identification and description of the nominee’s contributions/achievements is the most important part of the nomination.

Submission of Nomination

The nomination form should be submitted to  at least five months prior to the Annual General Meeting.  Nominations that do not meet the criteria or format requirements will not be considered

The Dr. Edward M. Watkin Awards Committee is made up of a chairman (currently Dr. Anne Naeth), one representative from each chapter and the previous two individual Watkin Award recipients.  None of these individuals can either make nominations or submit letters of recommendation.

Noranda Land Reclamation Award

The Noranda Land Reclamation Award is a prestigious award of the Canadian Land Reclamation Association/Association canadienne de réhabilitation des sites dégradés. Nominations for this award should reflect the outstanding contributions of the nominee in the areas of professional practice, teaching, research, and/or regulating authority as they relate to the profession of land reclamation in Canada and internationally. Nominees should be widely recognized for their contributions in the field of land reclamation spanning a significant portion of their career.

For the purpose of this award, the word “reclamation” by definition will include the facets of research, planning, developing, implementing and executing programs to establish conditions on disturbed or stressed land that will make the land useful.

Eligibility

  • Nominees will be considered for their contributions to land reclamation in Canada and internationally and may or may not be members of the CLRA/ACRSD. The recipient must accept the award in person at the CLRA/ACRSD Annual Meeting;
